About Independent Methodists

aim shield_logo_1Our Declaration

Because we believe that we can best worship God and His Son, Jesus Christ, through an independent form of church government, Independent Methodist churches have organized themselves to be free from all external control over the affairs of the local church, and declares their dependency only on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Therefore, it is our intent with God's help, to be a church that follows the pattern and desire of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement.   He wanted to see:

"A company of men and women have have the form of godliness, and are seeking its power who are united in order to pray together, to receive words of encouragement, and to watch over one another in love so that they can help each other work out their salvation."

What is the Association of Independent Methodists?

We are a network of Independent Methodist Churches committed to Christ-centered, Bible based Methodism with local autonomy of local churches.

The initials of the organization describe our purpose:

  • Assisting Churches
  • In
  • Making Disciples for Jesus Christ.

We do this by helping churches to fulfill the Great Commission and the Great Commandment.

AIM is a voluntary network of like-minded independent Methodist churches, doing together what we cannot or would not be able to do separately. Each member church owns and controls its own property. Each member church calls its own pastor.

As an Association, we strive to uphold traditional Wesleyan doctrine and the principles upon which Methodism was founded. Our goal is not control, but service; not uniformity of churches, but unity of churches.

Specifically we join together to assist one another by:

  • Strengthening churches through fellowship opportunities and discipleship training
  • Developing leadership and providing support in outreach opportunities
  • Providing encouragement and counsel to leaders of churches
  • Helping in building and welcoming like-minded churches to join our mission.
